Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effects of parenting stress in the relationship between behavior problems of infants with mental disorders and maternal depressive symptom. The participants comprised 129 mothers who have infants at the age of 21 months to 59 months with mental disorders. The infants were diagnosed with mental disorders respectively based on Chid Behavior Checklist(CBCL 1.5-5), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) and Parenting Stress Index(PSI). The result were as follows: First, the infants' internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems influenced maternal depressive symptoms and parenting stress. Second, the higher PSI score was shown in both Child and Parent domain, the higher Depression score was shown among mothers. Third, both scores of Parent and Child domains showed mediating effects between the independent and dependent variables. This study verified that two domains of maternal parenting stress mediated when the behavioral problems of mentally disabled infants influenced maternal depressive symptoms.
